My First Scratch Build - La Couronne I

January of 2008

Here are the plan sheets for this historic French war ship I found on the internet.... printed them off and began making sawdust without the first clue what I was about to get into.

The La Couronne was the first major war ship built by the French - completed in 1635.
Took part in the battle of Guetaria in 1638.
She was disarmed in 1641 and scrapped around 1645.
She carried 68 heavy guns, with 8 firing aft and 8 firing to the bow.
Hull Length - 171 ft....Beam width - 46.9 ft.
Crew - 643 men

And here is the final result after 600 plus hours

Scale - 1:120

Note:
Many poker chips will be passed across that fancy poker table every Tuesday night by a group of shameless liars.

Unfortunately, these are the only other pics of this first build.

My first rigging........
Actually thought this was pretty good at the time.
Little did I know how bad it was.

My first figure head carving

Looking at those dead eyes, is it any wonder I decided to build this ship a second time?

Consider this one pure PRACTICE.
